Medical Massage

According to the American Medical Massage Association, Medical massage is outcome-based massage therapy, primarily the application of a specific treatment targeted to the specific problem(s) the patient presents with a diagnosis given by a Medical Doctor, Chiropractor or a medical professional with prescription authority.  Medical Massage is administered by the medical massage practitioner with specific outcomes being the basis for treatment.

Financially, the primary difference between Medical and Therapeutic massage is the Medical can be billed through a patients' insurance, providing the insurance company covers the treatment; whereas, Therapeutic is completely paid by the client.  Most insurance companies require a medical prescription, which means the requested massage is "medically necessary."

If you are wondering whether your insurance plan covers Medical massage, call the Customer Service number located on the back of your insurance card and ask them, "Do my medical benefits cover medically necessary massage?"  If they will, contact me and I will

help you through the process.

CBA Blue Insurance (thru Middlebury College) covers Medical massage.  If you are an employee or a dependent under this insurance plan and have questions regarding massage therapy, give me a call and I will be happy to help you.
